Broken Brains or Wounded Hearts: What Causes Mental Illness
by Ty Chris Colbert

Broken Brains or Wounded Hearts: What Causes Mental Illness by Ty C. Colbert

The "modern" biological-chemical-brain model of the source of all mental illness is a fairy tale. There is no scientific evidence to support the notion that "mental illness" is due to "chemical imbalances in the brain", "bad genes" or anything else of a biological nature. The major drug companies and psychiatric associations push this idea relentlessly because it makes them both lots of money (and apparently many of them falsely believe what they are selling . . .). That is primarily the true motivation and source of the "modern" model of "mental illness" - money.

All psychiatric drugs effect the mind and emotions in negative ways, making it that much more difficult to honestly address the real sources of one's problems with life, their emotions and their own mind at a later time. Additionally, the psychiatric view declares us all fundamentally not responsible for our conditions and actions because we "have brain diseases" or "suffer from mental disorders" for which we can do absolutely nothing about (except take our drugs).

A response to Prozac Nation using its own "solid scientific data" to conclude that, after all, mental illness is an emotional disorder, and there is no biological basis for schizophrenia, depression, mania, and compulsive behaviors. Slowly eliminate medications (under advice of your physician) says Colbert (psychologist, Orange County, California) and get in touch with his "emotional pain model," which houses his three-phase plan for eliminating most emotional disorders. If that fails, the appendices supply information on how to choose a therapist. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.

Alternative healing for mental illness, without medication
This book opened a new life for us. A close relative has suffered two years with schizo- affective illness (between schizophrenia and bipolar). He's tried medications that disabled his brain to such an extent he couldn't function creatively or even normally, hospitals that take all control from the ill individual, and psychiatrists who see you for 10 minutes and prescribe a new medication. He's now in a clinic that uses no medication, probing the emotional-spiritual crisis that brought on all these symptoms of mental illness. This book explains these two radically different ways of looking at mental illness and opens a path to real healing and a productive normal life. He's in charge of his life now because of Ty Colbert's insight into the "wounded heart." His brain isn't broken at all; he's beginning to understand the crisis that drove him. A "10" rating isn't high enough.

People DO have various problems with life and their own mind. Instead of naming and redefining these problems as various so-called biologically-based "mental diseases", and labeling people with them, as is currently done within the psychiatric community, these problems with life and living are best understood and addressed outside of the traditional psychiatric paradigm. Why? Because psychiatric "treatments" such as ECT, lobotomy, and powerful psychotropic drugs are based upon severe faulty scientific methodology, and quite simply, harm people. Learn the truth about psychiatry and drugs.
