Drugs, Drug Companies, Directed Research, Big Money & the FDA

Drugs are big business - legal and illegal. Major drug companies and related financial interests have directed the research in the field of medicine for many years. These interests also fund the major medical schools and have extremely powerful allies in the government. Avenues of research are ONLY followed if the results produce patentable drug products which the drug companies can make money with. Natural products, despite effectivenss, are ignored and at times even attacked, because they cannot be patented and pose a threat of real competition to the drug companies (and their stock holders). A large part of modern medicine has nothing at all to do with "truth" or "honest research", but rather almost a century of huge financial interests directing all research and product development within a severely limited framework which ONLY allows drugs or other profitable approaches (i.e. radiation, surgery). A direct result of this is that prevention and alternative methods have been grossly ignored and often ridiculed, and the general health level of the public continues to decline.

The FDA (Food & Drug Administration) is supposed to act as a watchdog over the safety of the general public. In actual practice the FDA acts more to safeguard the financial interests of the major drug companies. Staff from key drug companies and the FDA board constantly "rotate" from one to the other, ensuring the interests of the drug companies are protected.

This becomes very harmful, especially in areas such as AIDs, cancer and psychiatry, where the benefits to the public remain secondary to large financial interests. Few books are available which deal only with the FDA or major drug companies. The books below cover these subjects to some degree, and in differing contexts, but the basic mechanisms of profit, low concern for the health of the public, corporate shenanigans, and deception form a common thread throughout the various segments of the medical/drug industry whether it be cancer, AIDs, or psychiatry.
